WWLL 2010 Umpire Training and Registration
For New and Returning Umpires
West Windsor Little League announces details regarding umpiring opportunities for new umpire candidates and returning umpires for 2010.
 
New Umpires:
WWLL is always in need of new umpires and offers appropriate training for new recruits.   Training classes will be held starting in February for the upcoming spring season.   Eligibility and requirements include:
  • Open to boys and girls age 14 and older (as of April 1)
  • WE ENCOURAGE ADULT PARTICIPATION if you are interested in learning to ump, this is not just a ‘youth’ program.
  • Free Training Classes (tentative schedule below)
  • League provides all equipment and uniforms (free!)
  • Flexible schedules – work around your other activities
  • Enhance your knowledge of the games of baseball and softball, develop leadership skills, gain self-confidence, and earn some spending money.
  • Youth umpires work both Baseball and Softball games from April through June, September and October. 
  • Earn money:
    • New Umpires earn $15-$20 per game
    • 2nd year Umpires with game experience earn $20-$25 per game*
    • 3rd year Umpires with game experience earn $25-30 per game*
The training program consists of 6 sessions; 5 class sessions ending with a written test, and one on-field training session.  The planned schedule is Wednesday evening training classes, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  All classes will take place at West Windsor/Plainsboro High School South in Commons I (the cafeteria area to the left as soon as you enter the front of the building - flag pole entrance) on the following dates:
  • Feb 10
  • Feb 17
  • Feb 24
  • Mar 3
  • Mar 10 (test night)
The on-field training day is scheduled will be held following the writing test at a date to be determined. 
 
Returning Umpires:  Returning umpires are encouraged to join the class as a refresher and still need to register!!  If you took the course but did not ump more than 3 games you also need to retake the instruction.

*2nd and 3rd year umpires will also need a predetermined amount of game experience in field and plate assignments to achieve ‘vet’ status.  Full requirements will be published before the start of 2010 season.
