July 26-WW 9's Lose Close Battle with Princeton-Eliminated from Ewing Tourney
The BB 9's played Princeton on Saturday night, July 26, in a battle that went down to the wire. Both teams played well and capitalized on the other's mistakes. The score was tied, 3 to 3, after three innings. With Princeton up 7 to 3 in the top of the sixth, WW mounted a rally behind Alex Mitchell's two-out single. The following six batters hit or walked to get on base driving in three runs in the process. With the bases loaded, Princeton got the third out to end the game, 7 to 6.
In what was to be the final game of the summer, everybody played well. Christopher St. Amour, Fred Maresca and Matt Phelan shared the pitching duties. Matt Phelan and Ben O'Brien provided rock-solid catching. Fred Maresca, Nishant Modi, and Ben Perrine played solid infield. And, Alex Mitchell, Josh Forrest, Scott Cochrane, Nikhil Modi and Simon Brooks covered the outfield.
From June 15 to July 26, every boy on the team hustled, worked hard and became a better baseball player. During the ups and downs, they learned about themselves, each other and how to work as a team. Every boy ended the season a much better baseball player than when they started. From all the coaches who got to work with you and the patents who saw you play, "thank you". You are a great group of boys.

The WW 9s played Ewing on Thursday night and lost 13 to 2. The bats were just not popping and the team made a few errors that cost them early runs. This put the team into the loosers’ bracket. But the boys were not deterred. On Friday night, they came back on the field to beat Florence 15 to 1 in 3.5 innings. Ben O’Brien and Scott Cochrane combined for four innings of solid pitching. Matt Phelan, Scott Cochrane and Ben Perrine supported the pitching performance with multi-base hits. The boys will continue to grind it out, playing Princeton Saturday night, July 26.

The WW 9’s won their first game in the District tournament post-pool play on Tuesday, July 22. The boys ten-runned Florence in fourth inning. The final score was ten to zero. Christopher St. Amour pitched three and two-thirds innings and Ben O’Brien came in with two on to shut down Florence. In the field, the entire team stepped up to support the pitchers. Matt Phelan and Ben Perrine did an outstanding job behind the plate. Scott Cochrane threw out an over-aggressive runner from center field to third at a critical point in the game. At the plate and on the base pads, the team was aggressive. Ben O’Brien and Simon Brooks hit big multi-base hits.
As a "reward" for their strong play, the team faces the #1 seed, Ewing, Wednesday night, July 23.

The WWLL baseball nines continue to battle at the District tournament in Ewing. WW came back from a four run deficit to beat Millstone in the bottom of the last inning of the game. The team played a strong defensive game behind pitching by Christopher St. Amour, Ben Perrine and Ben O’Brien with a tough five-run third inning by Millstone. Going into the fifth (last inning due to time limit), WW was down eight to four. The team never game up. Eight batters contributed to hit, walk or advanced runners resulting in four runs (Nikhil Modi, Christopher St. Amour, Matt Phelan, Fred Maresca, Simon Brooks, Scott Cochrane, Ben Perrine, Nishant Modi). With the game tied 8 - 8, and two outs, Scott Cochrane stole home for a walk-off run. With one game to be played in pool play, this win secures the team a position in post-pool play. WW faces Nottingham on Monday night, July 21 at 8 PM.

The baseball nines started their District tournament this week in Ewing with games against Sunnybrae and Plainsboro/Cranbury. The first game versus Sunnybrae was a tough start with a 17 to 7 loss. The team started strong with four runs in the first but could not keep pace with Sunnybrae’s bats. The second game versus Plainsboro Cranbury was a different story. West Windsor’s bats were alive with 15 runs in five innings. All twelve batters got on base with several reaching three times. Simon Brooks, Scott Cochrane and Freddie Maresca each posted multi-base hits. The West Windsor pitchers, hristopher St. Amour, Ben Perrine and Bennett O’Brien, held P/C to just five runs. The team plays Millstone on Sunday, July 20 at 10 AM and Nottingham on Monday July 21 at 8 PM.

The WWLL 9 year old summer team completed five exciting games in the North Brunswick tournament. The team played at a much higher level than the one and four record reflects. In three of the four losses, the games were decided by one inning in which WW could not put it all together. The boys emerged from the tournament with their heads up and with a better under understanding of what they have to do at the upcoming district tournament in Ewing. Please come out to support the team in Ewing on July 16 (6 PM), 17 (8 PM), 20 (10 AM) and 21 (8 PM).
