July 12-WW Defeats Woodbridge Black, 11-7
Woodbridge Summer Slam
After suffering a defeat to the strong Nottingham team that eliminated them from consideration for the next round of play, the West Windsor 12YO and under Tournament Team finished its play in the Woodbridge Summer Slam Tournament with a strong 11-7 win over the Woodbridge Black Team.  This was a sweet ending for the West Windsor team since it avenged an earlier extra inning loss to the Woodbridge team and this loss eliminated Woodbridge from consideration for the next round of play. The West Windsor Team was lead by the strong pitching of both Ben Sacco and Bobby Costa, who respectively pitched the first two and the last two innings allowing a total of 2 runs and striking out 6 batters. The West Windsor team had their hitting shoes on scoring 11 runs with no one in the line up kept off base. Joe Mulcahy had 3 RBIs, driving in 3 runs in a base loaded situation that put the West Windsor team ahead to stay. The Team will now compete in the South Brunswick Vikings Summer Classic with its first game this Wednesday, July 16 at 5:45 PM on Sondek B Field. Please come out and support the team.
July 1, 2009
The West Windsor 12 YO Tournament Team played its first game in the Woodbridge Summer Slam Wednesday night vs. the Woodbridge Black team losing 8-7 in eight innings. The West Windsor team played a solid game that featured solid pitching, good defense, timely hitting and aggressive base running successfully stealing over 8 bases.  Matt Grust led the West Windsor team in hitting batting 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs. Matt Pilkiewicz and Bobby Costa both had solid pitching performances over the first 7 innings striking out a combined number of seven batters.  The West Windsor team due to vacation and injuries was limited to just 9 players but their number did not diminish their spirits and the team kept fighting back from deficit scores of 2-0, 5-3 and 7-5 tying the game in the bottom of the 6th inning at 7-7. It was the type of game where neither team deserved to lose, but in the top of the eight inning Woodbridge pulled ahead 8-7. The game ended in the bottom of the 8th inning with West Windsor having runners on second and third base and the Woodbridge 3rd baseman making a great play on a line drive hit down the 3rd base line.  The team’s next game is Saturday, July 5th at 1:30 PM vs. the Fords LL Tournament Team at the Woodbridge LL Complex at 35 Van Buren Street in Woodbridge, NJ. Please come out and support the team.
