2009 Thunder Outing
On Friday, April 24, one hundred West Windsor Little League players, family, and friends enjoyed a picture perfect evening at Waterfront Park in Trenton watching the Thunder play the New Britain Rock Cats (Twins).  With temperatures in the low 80s and a light breeze blowing, it was a night of shorts and ice cream, in sharp contrast to the 2008 Thunder Night, which was a cold and wet affair.  A dozen WWLL players were the guests of the Thunder on the field for the playing of the National Anthem and were able to meet Thunder players and get some autographs before the game.
During the game, which was won by New Britain 5-1, the sold-out section of WWLL supporters enjoyed the usual Saturday night baseball bingo game, and all children under 12 received coupons for free kids meals.   Some WWLL families were closed out of the league’s tickets, but managed to find other tickets and dropped by the WWLL section to hang out.  Players and Coaches from the majors baseball teams that played a 4:30 game at Ward Field were still able to make it to Trenton for game time thanks to a particularly quick 1-0 game between the Nieschmidt Law Office Red Sox and the Hollyfield Nursery Blue Jays.  Players from all divisions of West Windsor baseball and softball, as well as parents, enjoyed the opportunity to chat and cheer for the minor league players as well as for the between innings entertainment at Waterfront Park, which included t-shirt tosses, musical chairs, and the always amusing dizzy bat race.
After the game, the Thunder presented an impressive fireworks show, made particularly spectacular by the unseasonably warm evening and clear weather.  To the strains of rock and roll as well as classical music the fans cheered the bursts of color and booming blasts.  After a day of games in the hot sun, everyone enjoyed the warm but comfortable night and look forward to next year’s Trenton Thunder Night.
